A joint search and rescue mission between members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s Search & Rescue Unit, the Royal Bahamas Police Marine Division, BASRA and OPBAT, was undertaken after the Operations Command Center received information of two (2) unaccounted individuals, after their vessel left Mangrove Cay enroute to Grand Bahama. Mr. Andrew Rolle and Mr. Zephaniah Pennerman, who were out to sea, were set to refuel their vessel in the Berry Islands on Sunday 27th March 2022, when their vessel ran out of fuel. However, the vessel went adrift and began to take on water. Luckily, Mr. Rolle was able to contact a friend and provide his approximate coordinates. A swift coordinated response rendered by the agencies involved resulted in their safe recovery. The boaters were spotted by BASRA’s aircraft, and a vessel was dispatched to assist with the rescue. The boaters who appeared to be in good health, were escorted to Grand Bahamas by BASRA with their vessel in tow.The Royal Bahamas Defence Force wishes to remind boaters of the importance of safety while at sea and assures the public of their commitment to the protection of our waters and all who traverse within them. The RBDF also values its relationships with local partners and will continue to work conjointly with them.
