The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) intercepted a vessel containing eighty (80) suspected Haitian migrants in Bahamian waters on Sunday, September 4, 2022.Acting on information received by a local fisherman, RBDF vessels P-130, HMBS Kamalamee, HMBS Bahamas, and RBDF aircraft C6-CDF responded to investigate the sighting in the Ragged Island chain, 3 Nautical miles (Nm) off Water Cay.RBDF vessel P-130, coxswained by Petty Officer Eric Rolle was the first water asset to arrive on the scene and later rendezvoused with HMBS Kamalamee, commanded by Lieutenant Patrick Lightfoot, which took on the 80 migrants (68 males and 12 females) with the Haitian vessel in tow.Medical assessments were conducted on the migrants who are currently being transported to shore for further processing by relevant authorities.The Defence Force is committed to upholding its mandate to ensure the territorial safety of The Bahamas – Guard Our Heritage.
