Defence Headquarters, 25 Aug. ‘23 (RBDF): The Royal Bahamas Defence Force held an official renaming ceremony of its fitness center in honor of former Commander Defence Force, Commodore Clifford Scavella on August 25 2023, onboard HMBS Coral Harbour Base.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Gym’s history dates back to the year of 1983 when it was developed by members of the force. Since then, the Gym became a strategic component in the overall transformation of the organization. The Gym served as a tool for Commodore Scavella to promote and encourage a more fit and skilled force.
During remarks given by Minister of National Security, The Hon. Wayne Munroe KC, he noted that he and the Government of The Bahamas is immensely proud of the legacy and accomplishments etched in the history of The Royal Bahamas Defence Force by Retired Commodore Scavella. He noted that it is indeed imperative that we foster a fit and diverse culture throughout the entire force to live up to the mandates they are entrusted with. Following was an official plaque unveiling and ribbon cutting ceremony. After which dignitaries were given a detailed tour of the new Clifford Scavella Fitness Centre. Also present were various health and fitness vendors showcasing products which embodies a healthy lifestyle.
The personnel readiness and physical fitness of organizational as part of a fighting force is a command priority of Commodore King. Hence, the complete renovation of the fitness gym for the benefit of RBDF personnel including community members is of paramount importance to the Commander Defence Force Commodore Raymond E. King.
