CAPTAIN SAMUEL EVANS (RETIRED)

Defence Headquarters, 01 JUN. ‘23 (RBDF): Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King, Officers, Warrant Officers, Senior and Junior Enlisted and Veterans paid their final respects at a Full Military Service for the late Deputy Commander Defence Force, Captain Samuel Evans at the Hillview Seventh Day Adventist Church on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Officiated by Pastor, Dr. Peter Joseph, assisted by Pastor Leonardo Rahming and Pastor Isnord, the service was held in honor of the legacy of Captain Evans. Family and close friends paid special tributes to a giant of a man whose life touched many. He was described by loved ones as the “glue” that held the family together; his example was one which taught others how to live, love and to pursue excellence. To his comrades, he was exuberant, humble and down to earth.

Bringing official remarks was the Minister of National Security, the Honorable Wayne Munroe K.C. Minister Munroe spoke of his personal interactions with Captain Evans, describing his nature as one who sacrificed personally for his country, and by his record was a man of discipline, order and concern for those under his charge. Minister Munroe also noted Evans many accolades and contributions, which have earned him the right to be draped in the nation’s flag. He concluded by extending condolences to the Evans family on behalf of Prime Minister Philip Davis, himself, and the Government of The Bahamas.

Dignitaries and special guest in attendance included Mrs. Cheryl Darville, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, the Honorable Keith Bell, Minister responsible for Immigration, the Honorable Desmond Bannister, the Honorable Justice Loren Klein and former Commodores of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s Officers and Marines honored the legacy of Captain Evans in a military procession along the Tonique Williams Highway, followed by a flag ceremony and final salute. Captain Samuel “Buck” Evans will be cremated, and thereafter, his ashes will be spread at sea, a place he held dear to his heart.

Prayers and thoughts are extended to family and loved ones on behalf of the Commander Defence Force and his wife, Retired Force Chief Petty Officer Fredricka King, Officers, Warrant Officers, Senior and Junior Enlisted and Veterans of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
